Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on August 24 1972 at Long Beach California. DuVernay was encouraged to pursue her love of the arts by her aunt Denise at the age of a small kid. Aunt Denise was a nurse who was a night shift worker so she could devote her day to art literature and theatre. She introduced DuVernay the 1961 movie West Side Story and DuVernay fell in love with it. DuVernay was instructed by her mom that the arts can serve to engage people. DuVernay was educated by her mother, with a conscience for social issues, and instilled DuVernay to express herself through art. Even though DuVernay was raised in Compton with her family she was a summer resident living in Lowndes County Alabama where her parents lived for many generations. The father of DuVernay's reminiscences recalled the historical Civil Rights march through the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the neighboring town of Selma Alabama. DuVernay was strongly influenced by her time in Selma and decided to make an documentary on the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In 1990 DuVernay completed her studies at Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. After graduating she attended the University of California Los Angeles which she graduated with qualifications in English and African American studies. DuVernay was in college when she started to get attracted to the field of production for broadcast journalism. Her career began working as an assistant at CBS News in the O.J. Simpson's trial. DuVernay recalled being instructed to look at the trash of a jury member's home. The duties she was required to accomplish left her unsatisfied which is why, when she decided to not pursue the field of journalism, she was able to move to the field of public relations. DuVernay was hired right after graduating from college as an intern at a small studio. The company she founded for her own PR, The DuVernay Agency was founded in 1999. In addition, she launched several lifestyle and promotional networks, including Urban Beauty Collective. Urban Eye, HelloBeautiful, and Urban Thought Collective.
